VolleySync

VolleySync Privacy Policy

Short version: VolleySync has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no server of mine. It uses Apple's iCloud for the parts that work over the internet. When you share a game, what you share is encrypted, and it is deleted when the match ends.

Last updated 1 November 2026. VolleySync is published by Hub City Drone LLC.

What stays on your phone

Matches, scores, team names, player names and jersey numbers, stats, saved rosters, your teams, and the list of teams you follow are stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.

What goes to your own iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, your match history and saved rosters are kept in your private iCloud database so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read your private iCloud data. I cannot see it. You can turn this off in Settings › your name › iCloud, or delete it under Manage Storage.

Sharing a game

Nearby

Phones in the same gym connect directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, encrypted in transit. Nothing passes through the internet or any server. While you are hosting, nearby phones running VolleySync can see your team name and the match name ("Hutch vs Laura Bush"), so they can find your game.

Share codes

When you turn on a share code, the live match is put in Apple's iCloud public database so people elsewhere can follow it. Here is exactly what that means:

Teams and following

Publishing a team

When you publish a team, its name and a random team identifier are stored in the iCloud public database under the team code, so people you give the code to can follow it. Nothing else about the team is stored. This record cannot be listed or searched, only fetched with the code. It stays until you tap Stop publishing.

When a followed team plays

When a published team starts a shared match, VolleySync posts a small announcement so followers are notified: the two team names, the time it started, the team identifier, and the game code, which is encrypted with the team code so only followers can read it. The announcement is removed when the match ends.

When the match is saved, VolleySync posts the final score for followers: the two team names and the score. Nothing else. Once the notification has gone out it is no longer needed, and it is removed the next time the scorekeeper opens VolleySync, at least half an hour later.

Because notifications must be able to find these by team, announcements and final scores can be listed by anyone with technical knowledge of iCloud. That is why they contain only team names and scores, and never a roster or a readable game code.

Following a team

When you follow a team, Apple's iCloud stores a notification request in your iCloud account that says which team identifiers you follow. Notifications are delivered by Apple's push notification service. VolleySync asks for notification permission when you first follow a team; you can turn notifications off at any time in Settings, or mute a team in the app.

What I don't do

What I can see

There is no server of mine; everything above lives in Apple's iCloud and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. As the developer, Apple's tools let me see that records exist in the public database, and the team names and scores in announcements and final scores. Shared match boards are encrypted and I do not have the codes. I cannot see anything in your private iCloud database. If Apple sends crash reports to developers because you opted in to share analytics with app developers, those come from Apple, are anonymous, and contain no match data.

Children

VolleySync is a tool for the adults keeping score and following, not an app directed at children. But the players named in it are often children, which is why shared matches are encrypted, cannot be listed, and are deleted when the match ends. Please still think before putting a child's full name on a shared game: first names or jersey numbers work just as well.

Your choices

Changes

If what VolleySync does with information changes, this page will change first, and the date at the top will say when.
